context

“Petroleum” was a durational installation and performance that took place at “Destination Atalante” in the foyer of Atalante in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was a part of “crusade naturae”, a site-specific series on climate change and environmental destruction where aiina aïon worked with physical characters giving our natural environment a voice.

about the piece

Petroleum is a naturally occurring, yellow-to-black liquid found in geological formations beneath the Earth’s surface. A fossil fuel formed by natural processes, such as anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms, containing energy originating in ancient photosynthesis.
